Toy Story 5 Teaser Pits The Beloved Duo Against a Digital Device
It has been 30 anniversary after the first Toy Story movie debuted, establishing the animation giant as a major film company and bringing audiences to iconic characters like Woody (Tom Hanks) and the space ranger (Tim Allen), who are now famous worldwide.
In 2026, the fifth installment is scheduled for release. The initial preview for Toy Story 5 appeared this week, offering a glimpse into the plot but leaving viewers curious how it will address the conclusion of Toy Story 4.
The Latest Addition: A Digital Device Spooks the Toys
The preview reveals Bonnie — who received the toy collection when he left for college — getting a brand new plaything, one that alarms Woody, Buzz, and the crew. Bonnie acquires her initial digital gadget, and she is excited about it.
Presumably, the frog-shaped tablet will animate just like Bonnie's other toys. However, the toys appear to consider it as a threat intending to supplant them, which it probably is.
The Cowboy's Comeback: Mysteries from Toy Story 4
One thing the teaser doesn't touch on is what Woody is returned with his friends in Bonnie's room. The end of Toy Story 4 depicted him set off on a new adventure with the shepherdess (the actress), journeying with a carnival and helping prize toys locate loving owners.
Surely, Pixar will explain the aftermath of Toy Story 4 in the film. Seeing him show up in Bonnie's room without warning is somewhat puzzling, though. It also raises questions whether Bo Peep will have returned with Woody. And what about the stuntman toy (the star)?
Connections from the Last Installment
At the very least, some aspects are carrying over from the prior film. The final act Woody did before departing for his new life was pass his symbol of authority to Jessie (Joan Cusack), leaving her in charge of the toy domain. The clip shows the badge attached to her shirt.
It is hoped she is remains the key figure among the toys.
Toy Story 5 arrives in theaters on the scheduled date.
